EMPLOYMENT

2023 - Now

  • Graphic Designer and Copy Writer, ACE Creatives, Greensboro, NC

    • At this fully remote job I connected daily with my team to ​coordinate a wide variety of designs and short-form scripts for a wide selection of clients, including work for Amazon.com, Interstate Batteries, Mozilla, and Mr. Beast, among many others. 

    • In this dual role, I worked partially as a graphic designer, creating visual graphics for online media. I also worked as a copy writer, writing and editing short form scripts (usually 15-60 seconds) for educational and entertainment value.

 

2015 - 2023

  • Illustrator and Designer, Crutchfield Corporation, Charlottesville, VA​

    • Design layouts for our nationally distributed quarterly catalog along with a team of designers, writers, and editors. Source and create both decorative and educational imagery for online learn articles. Create in-house and customer-facing designs for logos, window graphics, van wraps, t-shirts, vinyl stickers, wall murals, and more as needed. I also volunteer for community service projects alongside many of my co-workers

  • Freelance Illustrator, Movius Consulting, Charlottesville, VA

    • Illustrated black and white educational slides for Movius Consulting. Slides were later animated by a third party and added into Explainer Videos that taught complex topics about negotiation in simple terms.​​

 

2014 - 2015

  • Designer, GRAPHEK, Tysons Corner, VA​

    • Worked in a team of four designers to create branding, event collateral, and magazine layouts for a wide variety of clients. Some projects were collaborative across the team, while others were self-led. During my time here, I was responsible for projects such as leading the team on magazine design, coming up with multi-functional branding materials and collateral pieces for a family of different conferences, designing branding packages that included logos and all collateral materials, creating unique packaging for our holiday client gifts, and much more.

  • Freelance Illustrator & Designer, Ironclad Coffee Roasters, Richmond, VA

    • Designed branding, packaging, and collateral pieces for this growing roastery in Richmond, Virginia.

 

2010 - 2012

  • Designer & Lead Designer, TAD, JMU University Unions, Harrisonburg, VA​

    • Worked with a team of other graphic designers, web developers, writers, photographers, videographers and more who provided creative and technical services to James Madison University's Union. I created posters, branding, business cards, t-shirt graphics, banners, website designs, and a wide variety of other works.
      On a regular basis, I communicated with our printer and other vendors to manage printed materials for our university clients, as well as communicating with these clients to build them the best designs possible for their needs.

    • From 2011-2012, I was promoted to the Lead Graphic Designer and was additionally responsible for managing and assigning tasks to the other designers in the office.

 

2007 - 2023

  • Freelance Illustrator, Greenprints Magazine, NC.

    • Illustrate black and white editorial illustrations for this quarterly, gardening-focused digest magazine. I am typically assigned humorous stories, which give me the opportunity to draw some wild things.​

 

 

AWARDS

 

2022

  • Platform Comics 10k Challenge Winner, 35 Years by Hannah England

    • Wrote and illustrated a 7-page comic in 10k minutes (roughly 7 days) and was chosen as the overall winner. My work was published in the online anthology and I was awarded several comic-related prizes. 

2021

  • Platform Comics 10k Challenge Winner, Woof and Win by Hannah England

    • Did a 7-page comic in 10k minutes (7 days) and was chosen as the overall winner. My work was published in the online anthology and I was reviewed by two comic platforms.

    • Mad Cave Studios feedback: “The art in this piece is so much fun, the color palette especially stands out. The story has a nice pace to it that makes it feel breezy and the lettering really brings you into the vibe of the story. There were some points in the middle where I think you could’ve let the art breathe a bit and not overload a page with dialogue. Definitely professional level. Well paced and great use of theme. Looking forward to seeing more from Hannah!”

2018

  • Second Place, SVS Learn Art Contest for January 2018 

    • The challenge was to reimagine characters from Star Wars in a different way by drawing them in a unique style or mixing them with characters from another franchise. I chose to turn the droid characters into dogs.

    • Comment from Jake Parker: 'Hannah wasn't the only one to turn star wars characters into animals, or dogs for that matter. But I like her concept the best. She stuck with droids, and since droids are mostly companions to humanoids in Star Wars she likened them to dogs. Nice move. Not only that, she picked dogs that best matched each droids personality or temperament. Lastly, it's just executed so darn well. Nice rendering, structure, and design. Good job Hannah!"

  • Rhett and Link’s Book of Mythicality

    • I created and drew a silly invention as a joke on this famous YouTube team’s Facebook page, and they subsequently asked if they could include it in their then-upcoming book. It is now printed on page 156. They also made a real version of my silly invention and even created a real-life version of it for use on a segment of their show, Good Mythical Morning (Season 13 Episode 2 Part 3/3 - “Reverse Bell-Bottoms | FLIP-IT CHALLENGE”

    • I was interviewed following a 100-day challenge with Epic Bones / Leeanne Brennan in which I started and got deep into a children's book project. ​

    • I was interviewed about my First Place award for the Platform Comics 2021 10K Challenge along with author Massimiliano Grotti, winner of the 2020 challenge, in the 12th episode of the podcast.​

    • I was interviewed for a follow-up episode of my 2020 interview in the 158th episode of the podcast, where I spoke about the impact of the pandemic on my art.

    • My artwork appeared in the background of House Hunters season 147 episode 8, “Getting Hitched in Richmond.” It appears in the background of the Ironclad Cafe scene.

    • Volunteered to help paint the teacher's lounge but decided to ask the principal if she would like a free mural. She accepted, so I designed and painted a mural in under 5 hours as a surprise for the teachers. It received positive reviews from them when they arrived for the new school year.​
